I'm Annemarie Wassink, the photographer behind Hidden Light Gallery. This is my first blog post, and I'm glad to have you here. Today, I want to share my journey into the world of infrared photography and how my fascination with this unique medium began.
My adventure started a few years ago when I was flipping through a photography magazine. I came across an article about infrared photography, and what I saw completely captivated me. The images were stunningly different from anything I had seen before. The natural world, captured in soft tones and striking contrasts, had an almost fairy-tale-like quality.
Infrared photography piqued my curiosity because of the way it reveals the unseen. This immediately appealed to me, as I have always been fascinated by the unusual and love experimenting with creative techniques. The ability to play with light and offer a completely different perspective on reality felt like an invitation to discover something new.
What I love about infrared photography is how it adds another dimension to the everyday. It reveals a hidden beauty that is usually beyond our perception. With infrared techniques, trees take on an ethereal appearance with glowing white leaves, and the sky often appears more dramatic, with deep contrasts that lend a mysterious atmosphere to the landscape. These surreal images remind us that there is more than what meets the eye.
With Hidden Light Gallery, my goal is to share this magical world with you. Through my photos, I hope to inspire you to see your surroundings in a new light and realize that there is more to see than what we can perceive with the naked eye. I hope you feel the same sense of wonder that I did when I first encountered infrared images.
